Karsten was our school’s Most Valuable Player in 2019. This year, despite the challenge of rising to a new age division, he will be representing Canada this May in Herning, Denmark as an individual competitor. Below, he recounts his taekwondo journey beginning as a colour belt up till his most recent competition this January at the 2020 Canadian National Taekwondo Championships. . . . “Throughout my journey as a colour belt, I always looked on as others around me competed while never taking part myself. I didn’t begin my taekwondo competitions until I had already become a black belt, and never in my dreams did I imagine myself on such a grand international stage. There have been many ups and downs throughout the years in training and competition, but I would never trade away those hard times for an easier path. The journey is always more important than the destination and each challenge along the way has helped shaped me into the athlete that I am today. This year, I found myself in a new age category against athletes who are more experienced than myself. Never satiated with complacency and determined to prove the fruits of my labour, I focused my to push myself past my boundaries and past my own expectations. I am ever so thankful for the opportunity to once again stand on the international stage and once again represent Team Canada at the 2020 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Herning Denmark this May.” – Karsten Chan #jeoneuitkd #jeoneuiteam #taekwondo #2020 #poomsae #teamCanada #sharing #bctaekwondo #taekwondo #yvr #martialarts #vancouver #arbutusridge #跆拳道 #태권도
